THE 1995 RWC TRIUMPH CELEBRATION BREAKFAST

With all the attention over the past nine years on how Rassie Erasmus has transformed the Springboks from losers against Argentina in Durban in 2015 and against Italy in Florence in 2016, to double RWC winners in 2019 and 2023, the Springboks first RWC triumph at Ellis Park in 1995 seems like decades ago! Well, the historic 15-12 victory against the All Blacks WAS three decades ago this year and we will be hosting a Mondi celebration breakfast in Durban in August with four players who played in the intense and dramatic final, decided by the most famous drop goal in Springbok history!

The big boys, Kobus Wiese, Mark Andrews and double RWC winner Os du Randt (he won again in 2007) did all the hard, abrasive graft against the All Blacks, while flyhalf Joel Stansky executed the moment of the tournament with his winning drop goal, two minutes into the second period of extra time.

The great thing about this line-up is that we won’t just enjoy some great insight and anecdotes from the tournament, we will also be entertained by a panel who enjoy a good laugh at each other’s expense and always have a few tricks up their sleeves. We had the four for breakfast in Johannesburg last month and the stories and banter had the guests rolling in the aisles! Why the players still break out in a cold sweat when they drive past Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg! How Mark found out with his roommate Joel that he was playing No 8 in the semi and final and found a snoek in his bed! The behind the scenes stories of the rain-delayed Kings Park semi-final and the heroic defending on the line at the death! Joel talking us through his match-winning drop goal! How Joel and captain Francois Pienaar ended up hitch-hiking back to the hotel late after the Final! How Os was just a nervous laaitie. And lots more!

So, join us with key clients as we relive the opening win against a strong Wallaby side at Newlands, the “Battle of Boet Erasmus” against Canada, the last “on the line” stand in the rain against France at Kings Park and off course the famous nation-uniting win at Ellis Park in the presence of President Nelson Mandela.

Joel Stransky will MC the morning’s proceedings but will particate in the general panel discussion as well.
